The governance of parenting appears to be characterised by an increasingly interventionist approach. Based on an identification of a series of cultural shifts, this project investigates how state-endorsed views on parenting are currently transmitted through various techniques; such as new policies, programs and campaigns targeting alleged incompetences and insecurities of parents of today; and through the implementation of educative programs in Danish municipalities in order to guide parents to act in certain ways. The project further investigates enactments of parenting; and the social, moral and emotional experiences involved in child rearing in times of enhanced monitoring. Being sensitive towards classed, gendered, generational, ethnic and sexual differences, the project sets out to unravel the complexities, contradictions and distinct features of the current parenting culture and unfold how the widened governance of parenting may impact on, and produce inequalities between, parents.
